Bruce Clyde Harding, 84, of Osterville, died on Friday May 12, 2017 in Hyannis with his loving wife by his side. He was the beloved husband for nearly 60 years of Irene J. (Oliveira) Harding. Born in Weymouth, MA on December 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Clyde A. and Evelyn Isabella (Bruce) Harding. Bruce Clyde Harding, 84, of Osterville, died on Friday May 12, 2017 in Hyannis with his loving wife by his side. He was the beloved husband for nearly 60 years of Irene J. (Oliveira) Harding. Born in Weymouth, MA on December 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Clyde A. and Evelyn Isabella (Bruce) Harding. He came to Osterville as a youth before completing his education in New Bedford, MA and enrolling in the army. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War. After working in the auto body business, he became an insurance claims adjuster and for many years ran his own independent insurance adjustment service, traveling throughout New England.

He and his wife, Irene raised their family in Arlington, MA and retired to Osterville in 1994. Over the years, he was active in his communities by serving on the boards of his churches (Trinity Baptist in Arlington, MA and The United Methodist Church of Osterville), as a director of the Osterville Village Association and through membership in the Masons. He particularly enjoyed his long-time tenure as a volunteer with the Barnstable Police Department and had tremendous respect and affection for all of the officers in the department.

He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his love and dedication to family, his sense of humor, social and caring nature, love of dogs, and enjoyment of Boston sports (especially the Red Sox) and seafood. In addition to his wife, Irene, he is survived by 4 children, Leslie Mayer and her husband Bruce of Arlington, MA; Bruce Harding Jr. and his wife Lori of Osterville, MA; Jeff Harding and his wife Paula of Wakefield, MA; and Gary Harding and his wife Lori of Westford, MA. He is also survived by grandchildren Ian Mayer and his wife Christina of South Boston, MA;, Rachael Mayer of Quincy, MA; Jaclyn and Christopher Harding of Boston, MA; Jessica, Jeffrey and Justin Harding of Wakefield, MA; Nicholas Harding of Westford, MA; in-laws Daniel Oliveira of Beverly, MA; Kay Oliveira and the late Robert Oliveira of Helena, AL; Ruth and Milton Silva of Reading, MA and many loving nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Ruth Yankum of Norwood, MA and Naples, FL.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 17, from 4-8 PM at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main Street, Hyannis. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 10 AM at The United Methodist Church, 57 Pond St., Osterville followed by burial in Hillside Cemetery, Osterville.
