Leonard Mendes Sr., 81, of Marstons Mills, passed away unexpectedly, in Marstons Mills, on November 26, 2016. Leonard was born March 31,1935 in Onset Mass to the late Christian and Isodra (Gomes) Mendes. He was raised in Marstons Mills and attended and graduated from the Barnstable school system. He was affectionately known to all as "Lenny".

Leonard Mendes Sr., 81, of Marstons Mills, passed away unexpectedly, in Marstons Mills, on November 26, 2016. Leonard was born March 31,1935 in Onset Mass to the late Christian and Isodra (Gomes) Mendes. He was raised in Marstons Mills and attended and graduated from the Barnstable school system. He was affectionately known to all as "Lenny".

Lenny was the beloved husband to Lois (Pina) Mendes, devoted father to Leonard Mendes Jr. (Donna), Debra Mendes, Renee Marshall, Maureen Mendes, Michelle Mendes and Richard Mendes, grandfather of Leonard Mendes III (Kristen), Jason Mendes, Michelle Maddox, Jay Marshall Jr., Monique Mitchell (Joel) , Joshua Mendes, Claude (CJ) Nicholas, Josiah Nicholas, Kayla Mendes, Kristina Mendes, and Marcia Harvey. Great grandfather to Darius Mendes, Alana Mendes, Celestina Nicholas, Angelina and James Harvey, Sydney and Peyton Maddox and Brianne Aiken.
He is survived by his sister Clara DeBarros and brother James Mendes. He is predeceased by his sisters, Jenny Pina, Dorothy Johnson and Mary Deluze, and his brothers Edward Mendes, Richard Mendes, John Mendes and Lino Mendes. He was also the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, as well as, many cousins.

After many years of working in construction, Lenny started working at the Cotuit Water Department in 1981. He worked at the Cotuit Water Department until 2001, at which time he retired as Water Superintendent. Lenny needed to stay busy after retirement and began working for Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home for the last 11 years until the time of his passing. Lenny also volunteered with the COMM Fire District for 20 years.

In his free time, Lenny enjoyed spending time with his family, quahogging, landscaping, annually attending Laconia Bike week with his nephews and friends, and playing cards. As an avid sports fan Lenny loved to watch the Celtics and the Patriots. He was also a member of St. Anthony's Club.

Visitation hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Ave, Osterville, MA. Interment to be held at the Marstons Mills Cemetery immediately following the services.
