Phyllis Louise Burlingame lived a life that is worthy of celebrating. Born in Worcester, MA on August 20, 1922, her childhood home was in West Boylston. She graduated from Simmons College in 1943 with a BA of science, and began her business career in Boston as a secretary in a major Boston advertising agency. Most of her career evolved to management in production services in several Boston advertising agencies. She ended her career as Vice President of Production for MFS, a global financial institution. Through her abilities as a business woman and the trajectory of her career she served as a role model for all who knew her especially for the young women in her family. Her quiet strength and unassuming demeanor provided her friends and family tremendous joy. She played a wicked hand at Duplicate Bridge, adored Dewar's scotch on the rocks with a twist, and loved to find new places to visit along the Cape shoreline. She did not limit her travel, however, to just the Cape and found terrific places around the world to visit as well: Portugal being one of her favorites. Her scrabble skills were legendary and one would not dare to compete with her and New York Times Crossword Puzzle. A cozy place in local jazz clubs would be her joy and she relished quiet moments listening intensely. She founded a student scholarship at Simmons College which is a testimony to her generosity. She asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Phyllis Burlingame 1943 Endowed Scholarship, Simmons College, Office of Advancement, 300 The Fenway, Boston, 02115. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Clifford Burlingame. She is survived by loving cousins and a host of long-time friends. Her celebratory memorial service will be held at Thirwood Place, 237 n. Main St., South Yarmouth on Saturday, Oct 22nd at 2:00 pm.
